RE: Passport America or CampClub?

If you travel a lot PPA, there are more and you can work around the restrictions. We will be staying at Pigeon Forge on Monday thru Thur after having paid several hundred dollars for a week at another campground. That is where we presently are - staying at Waldens Creek. We will be pulling out on Monday though - paths cross. Yes - it depends upon each and every case as some will not be able to take advantage of it much and others, like us, travel around a lot and it certainly will pay for itself quickly. God Bless Bill

RE: Carefree Awning on the Dynasty

Hey - thank you all. Didn't know they were adjustable but I have absolutely no issues with doing that. Matter of fact I carry tools and just may do it tomorrow. It shouldn't take much of an adjustment to cause water runoff - I think rear would be best for me. Had I known it would not drain off or have an issue I would have retracted it before I left and it rained..... Once again - you guys come to my rescue. Thank you again. God Bless Bill

RE: Passport America or CampClub?

Thinking about joining one or the other. Which one has more CG's, "better" selection, more options, price of membership, etc? Any thoughts? Thanks I joined CC and the price was $39 - I think. Thought it would be a reasonable way to go. However - my trip from Iowa out to Virginia Beach resulted in absolutely nothing in savings at a single campground. On the way back I stopped and paid well over $300 for two weeks at Riverside campground in Abingdon VA - fellow RV'ers next door and I got to talking and they have PA - saved a bunch. Went on WiFi then and there and joined PA - the cost was $44 Left last Monday for Pigeon Forge and are staying at Waldens Creek. First time usage of PA and it saved me $45 - $1 more than the annual fee. I think I will likely keep both - but have to keep an eye on your travel routing, camping areas (as some are not too wonderful), dates of usage as some allow certain days and disallow others - especially holidays. I think CC will probably grow in coverage but right now the participatint ones are far and few between. Happy RV'ing God Bless Bill

RE: Actual Weights of Monaco 40 footers

40 foot Dynasty OVERALL WEIGHT = 31,100 LBS FRONT AXLE = 11,340 LBS REAR AXLE = 19,760 LBS LEFT FRONT = 5,600 LBS RIGHT FRONT= 5,740 LBS LEFT REAR = 10,060 LBS RIGHT REAR = 9,700 LBS TIRE SIZE 295/80/22.5 GOODYEAR G670RV Sure wish yours was the "tag". I picked ours up and simply have not had the time or opportunity to check all that out. I will when we get back - as I need to know the weights on each axle and especially the setting for the tag. Right now - I only know what the previous owners told me for tire pressure and setting for tag.... God Bless Bill

Carefree Awning on the Dynasty

Never have had the "electric" powered awning before and used it for the very first time here in Pigeon Forge. It rained and rained - and I had the awning out to give us shelter from the rain onto the picnic table. Came back from town and it was bending quite a lot as water was collected in it and not dumping out. I thought it was an automatic and just assumed if it began doing that it would automaticlly retract. Then I tried to retract it and it refused - guess the load was too much and it wouldn't reel up and dump the water. I went out and pushed the water off and then I could get the awning to reel up albiet slowly. I kept it up in the partial extended position so water won't collect - but now it's no longer raining. I left the key in the "on" position ----- Guess I had better get to know my awning better - read my manual. Input? God Bless Bill

RE: Any Issues; One Piece vs Split Windshields

Had both now. The Tourmaster has the split window and it didn't bother us one way or the other - until we bought the Dynasty. Love the single glass and view - no problems at all. Got to admit that I was a little concerned about the flexing during leveling but that was soon overcome as we don't have jacks. The Dynasty uses air leveling and it seems to eliminate the flexing. RE: Old "air" antenna - modify to be a roof mounted WiFi

Additionally - I think I will try and locate a Mfg that makes a "high gain" point to point external antenna. Since I can mount the unit on the old "air" antenna that can be controlled from inside the motorhome - goes up and down at a push of a button - will rotate either way at the touch of a button - and then store at the push of a button - I see no reason why it won't work. I have found one Mfg thus far but likely there are more. Can't do anything though until I get back homebase - and that will be sometime late next week. God Bless Bill Thinking of this one: http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wireless/antennas/2.4gig/long-range-wifi-kit.php Bill

RE: direct tv slimline hd antenna

i was wondering if i just bring 1 line from the 5 lnb dish can i still get hd.i hate the thought of having to run 2 lines. sometimes it's 75' to run. that's a lot of wire. thanks. I installed the 3005 series in July and went ahead and installed two (2) lines just to be safe. I only connected one like though as the other is a spare and the unit works great. Have not found a location yet that I couldn't receive a signal - for some trees it seems to pull the signal right through them. Did have one site where it locked on and then lost it and locked again - several times. I just backed the motorhome up a few feet and that did the trick. God Bless Bill

RE: Old "air" antenna - modify to be a roof mounted WiFi

This unit sounds like it has possibilities. I checked my antenna today and it works and still has the capability to raise and lower the assembly, rotate it in any direction. Makes sense to make the thing work for what I need. God Bless Bill

RE: Garmin GPS

I don't know - but I'm ready to "file 13" mine. Took it with me to Welch WV and the d%$#& thing just kept telling me to turn left, turn right, u-turn, and everything BUT where I was heading. Then - I drove to Pigeon Forge and it did the same d%#*% thing. Mine is the cheaper version - received as a birthday gift but it's only a few weeks old. On top of that - the roads in the areas mentioned have been there for "years" and being new is not the issue. God Bless Bill

Old "air" antenna - modify to be a roof mounted WiFi

Thinking of this one - but I have a really nice automatic roof antenna that I will never use. Was thinking that it would be nice to remove the antenna portion and keep the auto base and mount an outside WiFi antenna on it. It would be able to be a couple feet high and then fold down to store on the roof. Thoughts? God Bless Bill

RE: Camping Memberships! Give Camp Club a chance?

There are lots and lots of variations and we are just trying to be prudent. This morning we left Riverside CG in Abingdon VA (had I been a PA member there I would have more than saved the cost of membership as I stayed 2 weeks). We drove to Pigeon Forge and are presently at Waldens Creek CG and the savings at this stay alone slightly more than pays for the membership. God Bless Bill

RE: Camping Memberships! Give Camp Club a chance?

Just check to make sure your places are on the list. So far I have been trying to use PA and have found only one place on our many extended trips. They just are not in the right areas for us. And when we go south in the winter none are valid during the winter months. I probably won't renew--but others hit their cgs all the time... I am learning to "plan" the route and it pays off. We are leaving tomorrow for Pigeon Forge and will stay at one that has PA discounts. None there for CC. Then on way home I found some that work out ok and that's the route we are taking. Just may keep CC for a year or so and see how they grow (or don't grow). I think that as much as we will be traveling one or the other will more than pay for themselves in the long term. God Bless Bill

Camping Memberships! Give Camp Club a chance?

or cancel them? I joined thinking that I would enjoy a 50 % discount once in a while while traveling. Once I received their list of members and took a look at all the exclusions and restrictions I got the impression that maybe I had made a $39 mistake. My trip East resulted in not a single site where I could use the membership. I joined Passport America last week and discovered that the very campsite I am in presently would have saved me "more" than the membership fee --- had I been a member on this trip.... Oh well - since I paid for it maybe I should give them a chance to prove themselves as a new player. Experiences - thoughts???? God Bless Bill

RE: Floor plan help!!

We are in the shopping mode for our MH. Something we would like is a seperate bathroom not split(opinons welcome one way or another) and we would like the dinette on the curbside. We have seen some like this but looked at so many can't really remember whos( have to start taking notes) We are open to diesel or gas at this point and would like 35-40ft. If you know of something like this or have something like this please let us know what kind and also likes and dislikes. Thank You Cruiser51 Have had both (matter of fact still have both). Our Tourmaster model 8391 had the seperate bath with full shower, commode, sink and closet access with full length mirror. Loved that floorplan and room to actually move around in bathroom plus the privacy. Moving up then to our 01 Dymasty it has a split bath and we have decided, with couple reservations, that we like it just as much. Only issue with us is the small commode room - kind of bump ones head when finishing things off (if ya know what I mean). Otherwise we really like it and shower is about the same size as the Tourmaster one. Interesting enough - the extra HP, torque, weight, axle and everything considered we have mileage very nearly the same. The Tourmaster gives us a good 9 to 9.5 mpg on the road and the Dynasty (with 120 hp more) is giving us a steady 9 mpg also. We have placed out Tourmaster up for sale now with a few nibbles. It will make someone a great coach. Don't just throw out the option of a split bath because of your concerns about privacy - it really is a great floorplan and there are doors to ensure you have privacy. God Bless Bill

Commode - the electric model

Anyone ever replaced that valve and seal assembly in one of these? The Dynasty we bought has this model - wasn't used to it but have come to really like it. Only problem is it does not retain water in the bowl. From an old time solve - I put a couple tablespoons of brake fluid into the bottom and it now holds water. The seal is getting old. In mean time I called and ordered the seal and assembly and it now awaits my return home to install it. Just curious! God Bless Bill

RE: Satellite Internet - good, better, best? Not happy w/wifi

Just a thought if you haven't firmly decided on sat system yet. We also hadn't had a lot of success with finding wi-fi at campgrounds. When we went full time last year we were going to go with a roof mounted sat system but decided we would try a Sprint Aircard first. We are really glad we went the way we did because now we are able to look up things on the internet such as campgrounds and fuel prices as we go down the road something we would not be able to do with a crank up sat system. Also we can park in the trees and still get connectivity something that may be an issue with a roof mounted system. Granted the aircard doesn't work every where but even in Yellowstone we were able to take the laptop and air card with us to a couple areas of the park and get internet access. At $60 per month it has been a good choice for us. Might work for you. Great point It would take a "LOT" of $60 months to pay for that $5000 satellite dish and plus additional system costs.... RE: Satellite Internet - good, better, best? Not happy w/wifi

Boy - some "powerful" input here. Guess I hadn't given a few of the important ones enough weight - it sure wouldn't be a problem setting up the "secure" mode and control it that way. Thank you all! God Bless Bill

Satellite Internet - good, better, best? Not happy w/wifi

Thus far - have been less than satisfied with the availability of campground WiFi. Often we find it simply not available, available for charge, or unworkable. Probably will make some sort of decision on installing a satellite internet system by next spring ---- in the meantime would like input, suggestions, experience and thoughts. One thing I "shall" do in the event that I install a satellite system in my coach is ------ I will install a "WiFi" system inside the coach so that I can use it along with wife on seperate laptops and plus the surrounding campers "may" use it as they wish --- as I will not install the security system. RE: Mileage on the 2001 Dynasty 370 is

9 MPG is very very good . YOu have one special drivetrain ! Guess I thought it was about what I expected.... But have about 2000 more miles to go this trip and am keeping track of everything so will see. It's really hard to determine just on a tank or two - long trip mileage tells the real story. So far I am more than pleased with the coach - but I didn't realize it had 1200 # torque. No wonder it handles the mountains so well as it does. God Bless Bill
